Pin of the day: A vintage style shared kids room

I’ve been on a little pinning spree again this morning… I go for days without even opening Pinterest, and then I go a little mad pinning and scrolling furiously through bucket loads of things I’ve missed! (A bit like how I treat this blog… nothing for weeks on end, then… two posts in a week?!) How do you pin?! Are you like me, or a faithful daily pinner?

Whatever your pinterest style, what we would do without it I don’t know… And my favourite feature is the “Pssst! Looks like you’ve already pinned this!”- because without that my boards would be full of double-ups and even triple-ups! So many images catch my eye over and over, for good reason.

This was one that I tried to triple-pin this morning:

Amazing shared kids room

Via Lovely Life.

The abundant natural light, the giant map wall, the cute vintage beds, the greenery, the floors, the rug, the easy storage baskets under the bed… all of it! Love it.

Pin of the day: Spring living

It’s spriiiiing!!! Despite today’s wintry grey raininess, I’m still excited that down here in the upside-down side of the world we can now officially look forward to summer! It’s just around the corner…

The lengthening of days over the last few weeks means we now (sometimes) have dinner before dark, and on a good day even the birds are still singing! That’s awesome.

So I thought I’d keep an eye out on my Pinterest feed for something springish to share today. Gardens, outdoors, flowers… nope? How about a little living space then?

The light in this one puts it squarely in the spring camp, and the potted tree totally goes with the theme too. I also love the big artwork (it’s so trendy right now) and doesn’t the sofa look comfy? I want that floral cushion…

Hope spring has arrived for some of you with more sun and less rain than is going on in Auckland today?

Pin of the day: Modern farmhouse kitchen

..

Whoaaaa!!! Modern, classic, midcentury – this kitchen has it all going on! My dream kitchen has a big ol’ farmhouse table in it like this one, but I’ve never been a real country kitchen type. Love how this one puts it together with both timeless white and my favourite design era with the pendant and chairs. Oh and the floor? Is that concrete?! Concrete floors in the kitchen are the very best – I should know!

PS. I missed this post on Monday… worth the few extra days though right?!

Pin of the day: Spring is in the air

schoolhouse rocks.

I spent a lot of Saturday in the garden, and I’m so pleased to have tidied up all of the front and side yards. No longer are they overgrown with weeds (or those herbs I planted and forgot what they are…), and although they are still looking a little wintery and bare, at least we’re up to presentable again. Maybe next winter I will learn how to make the best of at least the front garden…

The good news is, I could feel a little spring in the air, and I even spotted a pansy poking it’s head up. My bulbs are starting to sprout (even the ones around the tree on the lawn, despite being mown over twice already!), and I’m looking forward to a flourishing garden again in a few short weeks!

The image above has got me a few times this past week or so – it’s been popping up everywhere. I finally gave in and pinned it on my Backyard board. I love a little private garden oasis like the one glimpsed through these doors!

There is lots more to this house too – it’s a converted schoolhouse in Haarlem, with masses of light and open space, but with plenty of eclectic goings on to create that cosy feeling the Dutch are so good at. More pictures at sfgirlbybay and here.

Enjoy!

Pin of the day: Going green

Since introducing some plant life into our bedroom “part-makeover” we are converts to having indoor plants. Who knows if it’s the rush of refreshed air that puts the smile on our faces as we walk into our room, or just the pleasing look of green leaves in a mostly white room that makes me happy? No matter… we’ll be adding more!

plants..

Roomie clearly knows what I’m talking about – this one popped up on my Pinterest feed from them today.

Happy Monday!

Pin of the day: Mid century time out

.

I’ve been poring over a book of mid century house plans that Andre got me recently, so this outdoor space has me tying some of those plans into a minimal landscape like this one. I love the simple, neutral colour scheme, the clean lines and the scarce planting. And I just know those chairs are comfy – we have our own versions!

It looks like a good space to just sit in and contemplate.

I’ve been doing a little of that recently, hence the blog silence for a while.

It’s winter here in NZ, and while we haven’t been hit with nasty weather too much (yet!), it’s definitely feeling like time to slow down and just sit some more. Read books, chat by the fire, lay on the floor doing puzzles, anything… just to wind down.

I’ve been feeling exhausted with mothering lately – the constant demands, both physical and mental, and the guilt that comes with my need to take time to step aside from all that for a bit. We’re struggling to shift month-long colds and sniffles, and of course, battling to get our bedroom progressing so we can look forward to having a spare room again and another few square metres to breathe in.

I know updates on what we’ve been up to are well overdue… but I’ve just been busy getting on and doing it, instead of blogging it.

I’ll be back to blogging it when I’m done sitting in the “winter sunshine” in my coolie chair!

Pin of the day: Making an entrance

||

There’s nothing grand about this, but I still think it is a grand entrance! I like that it just says “Hi, this is us, come on in”.

It’s friendly and welcoming – if a little reserved – and totally without fuss. It’s tidy, it’s sweet and it gives no inflated expectations of what you might discover inside.

First impressions count, and I’m getting well-scrubbed, big ol’ kitchen table and a pet-hair-free, comfy sofa from this one, which is just what I’d like!

Have a great Monday…
