The sun hit again this afternoon and it sent me off on a rearrange the lounge frenzy. It’s been in cosy mode for a few months and I’m excited to try it back the other way again (although I’m not tempting Murphy by taking that kindling box out just yet!).
Pictures, pictures… here they are:
And one little bonus shot of the sun streaming into the dining area –
Hey did you spot those dreamy new curtains in the lounge?? I’m just going to whip the rest of the house into shape so I can get some photos of them up in the master and spare bedrooms too. Enjoy the weekend, and I hope to be back next week with those bedroom curtain photos for you!
In a far off land called the U S of A…
They’re celebrating Independence Day!
Oh my Dad will be so proud of me for that little ditty! But moving right along…
In honour of my readers from the land of the independents I’m all about red, white and blue today. And personally, I’m grateful for this little home of ours that we can stamp (and are stamping) with our very own brand of independence. Hooray for the mortgage!
Here’s what I found on a wander around the house with my red, white and blue glasses on… surprisingly much:
– Stars and stripes of a slightly kiwi variety… WE – independent but united… how clever am I with this theme?!
– Our lounge maps. Totally missed the celebrating country but the colour theme got a bit murky if I included it… sorry Americans!
– My bedside notebooks for recording the good, the bad and the ugly of the kids lives (yes, only two kids but I’m already prepared with two notebooks each)
– The recent city scape and sweet quilt in the kids bedroom
– An inherited retro fan and some tin soldiers
– Just two of Andre’s red, white and blue check shirt collection (they rarely make it onto hangers in the wardrobe)
– Our gorgeous and vibrant Persian floor rug
Many years ago when I was 12ish, I was super lucky enough to spend the fourth of July at Disneyland. In California. To this day I have never been part of a more packed crowd of celebrating people, and I still remember the awesome feeling. Thanks America, have a great day!
For this wee moment of fame we were asked about our favourite purchase for the house to date…
That took a little thinking about, as there are lots of favourites, all for different reasons. Anyway, we managed to narrow it down to mine being the maps bought for Andre’s Christmas present in 2010 (what does that tell you… I bought them for him, but they’re my favourite?!) and Andre picked the lounge suite, which was definitely not love at first sight (we don’t have a before photo, but can say the in laws were a bit embarrased to pick it up after we purchased it on TradeMe while out of town) but is now our most complemented piece of furniture after a white vinyl makeover.
Conveniently, they hang out together at one end of the lounge so we could get them both in one shot (so unstyled by the way… my lounge always looks like this):
Spoiler alert though: I think I have a new favourite… (sorry maps)… we went rug shopping last weekend while sans toddler and finally got ourselves a new lounge rug. Which is delightful and makes the lounge so much cosier, but the one that really has found a special place in my heart is a little square piece of Persia which we had no intention of buying. I just love the colours and sent Andre back to pick up the invoice and certificate for our lounge rug, with instructions to get the little one we’d left behind too! Photos for sure, when I can manage to restore the lounge to some semblance of the above order again.
