Countdown to Christmas

With my almost 3 year old starting to understand the idea of Christmas now I have been wanting to do an advent calendar so he can join me in the countdown… BUT I didn’t want it to be associated with treats of any edible or dinky toy variety. I thought about tree ornaments but I am lacking the sleep motivation to get something like that organised this year.

An email from Baby Bites had some ideas so I took one of them and made it my own…

I had paper, card stock… all I needed was a few minutes and some white sticky dots. Managed to find both this morning!

If you want to print this off for yourself it’s right here. I just cut out santa’s head minus his beard, and the poem block and stuck them both on some silver card, but you could do it a bit different if that’s your thing… I also thought I’d help out Master W with a “beard guide” so he knows where to put the sticky dots, so I just did a pencil transfer of the shape of the beard straight onto the card (it’s very faint and invisible in the photo sorry).

Just waiting for December 1 now to get started on that length of sticky dots!

Anyone else excited for Christmas?!

Inspire Monday: Rug making

I’ve just pinned a new project: a round rag rug!

Hula Hoop Rug

I have searched high and low for such a thing but gave up and bought a regular rectangular rug for the kids room when I decided it would be far too hard to make myself one.

But this tutorial via Colour Me There makes it seem very possible… that is inspiring!

Bugs, balloons and busy days

A lack of posts this week is due to a lack of time and energy…

Holidays from kindy has meant I have both the little ones hanging around my ankles all day and extra effort is required to keep the whining to a minimum! We have a couple of Very Hungry Caterpillars about the house as a result.

Some of us also came down with a bug that has been doing the rounds of family and friends. I got it bad and lost a night and a day of my life.

In addition, big things are going on here this weekend. Big 2 and a half year old things. We celebrate Master W’s birthday halfway through his year, because his birthday is on an awkward day and parties don’t work for us then. Here’s the invite (let me know if you’re coming!):

More on our balloons and bubbles party next week – it’s going to be grand!

Inspire Monday: Creativity is in the process

With Master W on holiday from kindy I was frantically searching last night for ideas to keep him amused. He is one on the go wee boy and kindy has been great for both of us in terms of keeping things sweet between us! These are the first holidays we’re experiencing and to be honest I’m a bit daunted by the thought…

I was about to throw out an egg carton last night until I remembered they were good for crafty projects – I had to turn to Pinterest to find some.

Seeing as we have the Very Hungry Caterpillar book this one caught my eye. So we painted them up (one each, except Master W lost interest at about the point of the photo above so I’ve painted his up too) this morning and after his sleep they should be dry so we can add eyes and antennae.

In the spirit of this post (like last weeks), it felt great to get some paint and paintbrushes out again and I’m inspired to have a project like this to do every day of these holidays with Master W – even if he doesn’t see it through to the end at least he will see me enjoying myself!

I am currently saving toilet rolls to make this and these.

Anyone else getting messy with creative projects?
