Four years ago we were looking forward to a couple of weeks in Turkey. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about our time there – it was one of our first experiences of a culture so different from ours.
We visited just before the real tourist season, so everywhere we went was pretty quiet and we felt pretty sought after hopping off buses each time and being accosted by so many Turkish people trying to entice us to stay in their pension.
Time constrained us to the south-west area of the country, but highlights included Patara, a boat trip out from Kaleucagiz, and Pamukkale. I could have spent all day wandering the ruins at Hierapolis (image above), and the salt terraces above Pamukkale.
